You wanted to know if it’s safe to go boating while you’re pregnant and all outdoor activities come with some risk, but there are circumstances that can put you at greater risk. If you’re on the lake and it’s nice and calm and the person driving the boat isn’t going very fast and you have a life jacket on, you know, you should be pretty safe, but if you’re driving really fast or it’s really choppy then of course the risk of crashing or having something happen is higher and it’s not good to take risks when you’re pregnant. So if you feel comfortable with the circumstances and you think the risk is minimal, then you could go out on the lake with your family. But ultimately I suggest talking with your OB provider and, based on their knowledge of your circumstances, they’ll be able to give you tailored advice about whether or not it’s safe for you. Keep in mind that if you do go out, whether you’re in a boat or not, if you’re out in the hot sun you become dehydrated more quickly because you’re sweating, so make sure you’re drinking enough water, because dehydration can cause contractions. So make sure you’re drinking enough and stay safe and have fun. If you have more questions in the future for me, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/IntermountainMoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.
